McNabb traded: Cause and Effect

On Monday, the Philadelphia Eagles traded their star, face of the franchise, after months of rumors and circulation through the media both in Philadelphia and nationally.  After representing the Philadelphia Eagles in 6 Pro Bowls and leading the franchise to a failed Super Bowl appearance, management in the Eagles organization has decided it is time to move on.
And today, McNabb was traded to the.... WASHINGTON REDSKINS!!!

Andy Reid, head coach for the Philadelphia Eagles, did McNabb a favor by not trading him to the lowly Oakland Raiders or the unpopular Buffalo Bills, but instead sent him to a division rival that instantly becomes better.

The Redskins becoming better will not be the only outcome of this trade.  Here are five things that will happen in the NFL in 2010.
1.  The Washington Redskins will finish the 2010 season no worst than 11-5.  Led by their new head coach Mike Shanahan and brand new franchise QB Donavan McNabb, this team will be drastically improved.  Look for the Redskins to keep that number four pick and draft the disgruntled talent Dez Bryant.  This will give McNabb a standout playmaker down field, something he had only once in his career in Philadelphia (see, gulp, Terrell Owens).

2.  Andy Reid will be fired after the Eagles finish below .500.  Reid has had a great run in Philly, but losing McNabb will be too much to swallow.  Mike Vick won't be able to accurately get the ball downfield to talented wideouts Desean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin enough, and honestly, Kevin Kolb is not the answer.  Finally, the Eagles lose their heart, soul, captain, and leader on the field.  The leader on the sideline will be gone too.

3. McNabb will sign an extension with Washington.  ESPN is already reporting that McNabb and the Skins are in talks for an extension, and look for it to get done as the Shanahan/McNabb led Redskins replace the Eagles as a main power in the NFC East.

4. The St. Louis Rams will draft Sam Bradford with the #1 overall pick.  There was little doubt before, but now it has been solidified with the release of former Rams QB Marc Bulger, as the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that the Rams held on to Bulger for so long in case a swap of picks materialized with the Redskins.  This is not going to happen now, and Bradford will be a St. Louis Ram.  Look for the Rams to go about 2-14 despite having Bradford under center as this team will remain at the bottom of the NFL.

5. Jimmy Clausen won't be drafted in the top 10 picks of the 1st round.  Washington was the obvious place for Clausen to land, but now that that Skins' have their QB, where does the former Irish QB fit?

Kansas City would be a logical choice as Clausen could re-unite with their new offensive coordinator and former Irish head coach Charlie Weis, but the Chiefs are already paying big money for Matt Cassel.  The Seahawks at #6 already have two signed QB's, and the Browns at #7 have already released 2 QB's this off-season and added Mike Holmgren favorite Seneca Wallace.  It would seem highly unlikely they would add another QB to that crowded mix.

Clausen's draft status, like his leadership qualities, is now in doubt.

There is plenty of reaction everywhere on the McNabb trade.  Check out the video below for further reaction from ESPN.
