Michael Vick, They Said It!

Michael Vick did his part to clear up any quarterback controversy that may be brewing in Philly.

In an interview with ESPN on Monday, after leading the Philadelphia Eagles to a Week 2 victory on the road in Detroit, Michael Vick said this about the situation between him and the other Eagles QB Kevin Kolb;

"I came into this season and this year as the backup and that's been my mindset.  I've been working hard to be reliable whenever I'm needed. That's the way it is, and the way it's gonna be throughout the season....

I know how good he is, and what he can do.  He's gonna lead us and we're gonna follow...

Hopefully, somebody will give me that opportunity [next year] and if they give me that opportunity, they'll get 110 percent."

WOW!  How things have changed with Michael Vick!

Vick is simply returning the favor.  Here's how....

Last year the Philadelphia Eagles were the only team willing to give Michael Vick a chance to come back as a quarterback in the NFL.

He knows he is not done paying his dues and he owes Coach Andy Reid and the Philadelphia Eagles not only everything he's got on the field, but also in the locker room.  His job is to do everything he can to help the team win, and in this case, at this time, Vick knows that making sure a possible QB controversy turns out not being a controversy.

And Vick is being smart.  He is waiting for that perfect opportunity to push the envelope until the time is right, which will be when the team needs him the most.  At that point, he will be ready.

But gosh does he look good!  After a rusty start, its clear that Vick is back and honestly, better than ever.  Yesterday he threw for 284 yards and had a completion percentage of 61%, something which was virtually unheard of earlier in his career with the Atlanta Falcons.  Oh yeah, he rushed for 37 yards too.

But Vick also has a presence about him, a confidence that he has learned how to play the quarterback position finally.  He is better equipped to read defenses, to make adjustments, and to make quicker more efficient decisions.   And the scary thing is, he still has that freakish athletic ability.

Its good to see Michael Vick not only playing well on the field, but to see that he has matured off of it.  He's putting the team first, a true sign that its not all about him.  This doesn't mean that everything in his troubled past is forgotten, but it gives hope that young men in the NFL actually can turn their lives around off the field, and Michael Vick, at this point, seems like a good example.  Lets hope he keeps it up.

But he'll be ready when his day comes to be a starter again.

And for now, the rest of the league is glad he is still the "back-up".

  1. Looks like Vick is now named starter in Philly. Saying and doing the right things, and playing like a winner!
