C.J. Wilson, MLB Pitcher of the Week!

Since the MLB Baseball All-Star break, C.J. Wilson has made two starts for the A.L. West leading Texas Rangers.  And boy have both of those starts been good.

So good, that Wilson has been named this week's ManSpeak MLB Pitcher of the Week!

Wilson is new to the rotation this year for the Texas Rangers.  After filling in as a spot closer and being the primary set-up man for Frank Francisco the past couple of season, Wilson was moved into the rotation as the bullpen became crowded with the emergence of rookie closer sensation Nefalti Perez.

The move has benefited the Rangers tremendously.  Notoriously lacking a pitching staff to support an offense that was playoff worthy, Wilson has added the stability and flexibility the team from Arlington has been lacking for the past two decades.

While Wilson's season numbers are impressive (9-5, 3.03 ERA, 1.20 WHIP), Wilson was even better in his first two starts of the second half of the season.  Wilson beat the Red Sox on July 18th with the power of 10 strikeouts.  Then, yesterday, against division rival L.A. Angels, Wilson used his defense more, scattering 4 hits over 8 innings while only striking out 3.

If Wilson can continue to adapt, using his defense behind him and bring power to get strikeouts in tough jams, Wilson should be plenty valuable the rest of the season for the Texas Rangers.  Starts like those against the Angels last night are even more important in big division contests and show the Wilson certainly has matured quickly as a starter this season.

Couple Wilson with the newly acquired Cliff Lee and the Rangers have a pair of lefty starters that few teams can match up with.  And we can't forget about the lineup, bolstered by Josh Hamilton, Vlad Guerrero, and Ian Kinsler.  The Rangers really are scary good!
Congrats C.J. Wilson on being named this week's ManSpeak MLB Pitcher of the Week!
