How Many Would Michael Jordan Score Today?

Jordan is easily the best basketball player
of the past 20 years.
Michael Jordan, promoting the new NBA 2K11 video game, recently hinted that his legacy would be even bigger if he was playing in today's NBA.

"It's less physical and the rules have changed, obviously," said Jordan.  "Based on these rules, if I had to play with my style of play, I'm pretty sure I would have fouled out or I would have been at the free throw line pretty often and I could have scored 100 points."

100 points?

What?  Is he crazy?  I love Michael Jordan and he was one of my favorite players to watch all-time.  But come on, 100 points?

What Jordan fails to realize is that he was 15 years ahead of his competition.  He was bigger, stronger, faster, and built differently than the players of his generation.

Today, Jordan would continually line-up with 6 foot 8 inch shooting guards with 7-foot wing spans that move like a point guards.

He wouldn't be able to easily elevate over the likes of Jeff Hornacek or John Starks any longer, but instead, would be shooting over guys like Danny Granger and Rudy Gay.

And does Jordan factor in how zone defenses and how they have altered the game.  It would be hard for MJ to post up every possession on John Starks if the other team was in a zone.  Sure he'd go for 40 points regularly still, but 100?

Would Jordan dominate today's sport?  Most certainly!  But to suggest that he could score 100 points is absolutely insane.

Kobe Bryant did score 81 points in a game a few seasons back, but Michael had to of been drunk when he said this.

It is interesting to think about how the great players would play during different eras.  Terry Bradshaw in today's NFL, Bob Gibson squaring off against Alex Rodriguez, and Michael Jordan against the likes of Lebron James, Dwayne Wade, and Kevin Durant would certainly be entertaining.

I have no doubt in my mind all of these great players would be successful, but I'm not convinced Michael Jordan could score 100 points in any regular season NBA game.

It is interesting to debate.  Take a look as the guys from PTI discuss if Jordan could go for 100 points in today's NBA.

Do you think Michael Jordan could score 100 points today?
