Isaac Bruce Says St. Louis Rams Could Make Playoffs

Isaac Bruce, member of the St. Louis Rams' 'Greatest Show on Turf',
will have his number 80 retired by the organization on Sunday.
This Sunday at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis, MO, prior to the St. Louis Rams match-up against the Carolina Panthers, the Rams organization will retire number 80 in honor of their long-time wide receiver Isaac Bruce.

Bruce, who his third all time in NFL football history with 15,208 receiving yards, is honored that the Rams would celebrate his 14 year career by hanging his jersey in the rafters.

"We'll have a great time celebrating it," Bruce said. "I'm just honored. All I've been thinking about is that when you honor father God, he honors you. That's all that just keeps pouring in my mind. He's honoring me, because I honor him."

While the Bruce ceremony before the game will certainly be emotional and a great time on the field, its what Isaac Bruce said about the current St. Louis Rams on the field that should really get fans excited.

"They're right there," he said. "I wouldn't be surprised to see the Rams winning the NFC West this year — I wouldn't be surprised at all. I think they have it on defense. They're stopping people. They've got the chains moving on offense. Considering what they lost as far as the wide receivers are concerned, man, they're doing an awesome job. That's coaching. That's guys buying into a system."

Wow!  A former great player, future Hall of Famer, and consultant for a rival NFL organization, (Bruce helped out in training camp with good friend Mike Martz, offensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears), thinks the Rams actually have a shot of making the playoffs.

This is the same Rams team that has gone 3-29 over the previous two seasons.  And Bruce thinks that the Sam Bradford led Rams have the chops to make the playoffs.

While I think Ike may be getting ahead of himself, I do like Bruce's chances of forecasting the future.

The Rams are building a brand of football, centered around solid defense and their young stud quarterback that many organizations have ridden to glory in the past.  Inserting a few key pieces, such as a number one wide receiver, (ironically somebody like Bruce) and a back-up running back to counter Steven Jackson, and the Rams will be right there.

Congrats Isaac Bruce on having your number retired.  And congrats to the St. Louis Rams for finally turning the organization around.
