Greg Oden Not Offered Contract by Portland Trailblazers

Greg Oden has spent more time on the trainer's table than on the
floor during his 3 year NBA career.
Greg Oden has been a major disappointment throughout the majority of his brief NBA career.

Oden's chronic knee injuries and inability to get healthy have caused the Portland Trailblazers to announce that they will not be offering Oden a contract extension by Monday's deadline.

The former 1st overall pick by the Portland Trailblazers has been one of the all-time ultimate busts in the history of the NBA.

When healthy, Oden has played relatively well for the Blazers in his career, which includes just 82 games, averaging 9.4 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 1.43 blocks per game while shooting 57% from the field.

Its too bad that Oden's career has turned out to be nothing but a big hype machine.

Hopefully Oden recovers completely and is able to catch on with another NBA franchise to become an impact player at some point, but have we ever seen a player become so popular without delivering anything substantial on the court?

Sure, he helped lead Ohio State to a Final Four appearance during his one year in college, but some would argue  not winning the National Championship was a disappointment, the first of many now that we know how his NBA career has turned out.

The expectations for Oden weren't fair.  Hopefully, now that expectations are all but gone, Oden can focus less on making commercials, (remember the 'I'm a chameleon' ESPN commercial) , and instead, get healthy so he can play basketball again.
