New York Blackout - Fox, Cablevision Try to Get World Series on TV

While the lights are on in New York, Game 1 of the MLB
World Series was not.
Game 1 of the MLB World Series included a combined 18 runs, 25 hits, and 6 errors as the San Francisco Giants outlasted the Texas Rangers 11-7 to take a one game lead.

It was hardly what was expected going in, considering the pitching match-up featuring Cliff Lee of the Rangers and Tim Lincecum of the Giants, both former Cy Young Award Winners.

Baseball purists would've been appalled at poor pitching and poor fundamentals in the field.

Not all baseball fans got to see this game though, at least not the ones in the City of New York.

In an ugly dispute between Cablevision and Fox, all Fox programming has been pulled from the air as the two companies continue to work through a contract negotiation.

Cablevision is compensating customers $10 so that they can watch the game on MLB TV through the MLB network.

Representatives from Fox do not see a resolution anytime soon if Cablevision's latest offer, which matched a contract Fox recently inked with Time Warner, has any merit on where negotiations are headed.

"Cablevision is seeking a discounted 'package rate' without buying the entire package," Fox said in a statement.

Meanwhile, obviously, Cablevision feels very differently.

“This is higher than the rate we pay any other New York broadcast station,” Cablevision said in the statement. “This solution is in the best interest of not only baseball fans but of all Cablevision customers and Fox viewers.”

Fans are outraged in New York, and rightfully so, as New York is home to more baseball fans than any region in the United States.  They are stuck subscribing to channels they do not want or watching the games at local pubs.

I would have rather have watched it in the comfort of my home," said Cablevision customer Robert Mercado, 37, of Howell, N.J. Mercado had stopped at T.G.I. Friday's at Penn Station to watch some of the World Series before going home.

Either way, it would've been very interesting to see what would've happened had the Yankees made the World Series.

Would Fox still be blacked out in New York?
