Braylon Edwards Puts Jets in Bad Spot

Braylon Edwards is a clown!  Period.

In case you haven't heard,  Edwards was arrested Tuesday morning and charged with a DWI when he was pulled over driving a Range Rover in Manhattan at 5:15 A.M. and registered a blood alcohol limit of 0.16, which is twice the legal limit in the state of New York.

The Jets can't suspend Edwards due to the collective bargaining agreement.  This has put Rex Ryan  in the unenviable spot of determining just how much playing time Edwards will receive in a critical Week 3, divisional road contest at the 2-0 Miami Dolphins.

"To say the least, I was a little upset with it.  We know how important this game is.  I'm not going to tell you Braylon is going to miss X amount of the game because, quite honestly, I'm not ready to do that right now.  When it's the right time, I'm going to make that decision."

But what should Ryan do?  Should he play Edwards?  Should he sit him?  What would you do?

If I were Rex Ryan, I wouldn't let Edwards see the field in the first half of the game against the Dolphins as punishment for his off-the-field shenanigans.

At half time, I'd tell Edwards that if he doesn't grab at least 6 balls in the second half, there is no excuses as his play and now his behavior has been below par.  If he doesn't catch 6 balls, I'd cut him, especially if the Jets lose the game.

That way, you can do what you really wanted to in the first place.  Get rid of the cancer and the distraction, but cite that you are cutting him for a lack of performance on the field, which wouldn't be far from the truth at all considering how big of a disappointment the former Michigan Wolverine has turned out to be.

Since joining the Jets in a trade last season from the Cleveland Brown, Edwards has been average at best.  In 12 games with the Jets in 2009, Edwards caught 35 balls for 541 yards and 4 touchdowns, not bad if he is your the second option.

This season, as the Jets clear go-to option throwing the ball, he's managed only 6 catches for 1 score, hardly the production for a team that claims to be "Super Bowl Contenders" and depends on Edwards to be a number one wide out.

Time for Edwards to put up on the field, especially since the Jets have to dress him due to rules in the collective bargaining agreement.  If he doesn't perform under these circumstances, I think he should be cut, especially since the Jets are paying the guy $6.05 million to do nothing.

I don't want Edwards to play after getting in trouble with the law yet again, but I don't think the Jets or Rex Ryan have a choice.  And if he doesn't play well after he has forced the Jets hand, they'll have to push in their chips in and cut him loose and take their chances on their other troubled wide-out Santonio Holmes.  Because with Edwards, the just are not getting their return on investment.

Oh yeah, and if any of you are parents, show them a picture of Braylon Edwards above and tell your children they better not be that dumb at any point in their lives!

Finally Braylon, if anything else, shave your beard!

Thoughts?  Share with me if you think Edwards should play or not of what you think the Jets should do!
