Top 5 NFL Uniforms

There have been plenty of rumors and rumblings about what some of the new NFL uniforms will look like once Nike becomes the league's official uniform sponsor in 2012.

Some of the takes on what the uniforms will look like have been quite interesting, piggy-backing off what Nike has done at the University of Oregon and some other college schools.

But what about the uniforms currently in the league?  Which are the best?

Lets look at the top 5 uniform designs currently hitting a stadium near you in the NFL

1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Josh Freeman throws a pass in his sweet looking Tampa Bay Bucs uniform.
Long gone are the ugly, hideous orange sweat suit uniforms the Bucs use to sport in the 80's and early 90's.  The current style that Warrick Dunn, Warren Sapp, and Jon Gruden made popular with their Super Bowl XXXVII winning team in 2002 has been around for some time, but it was years ahead of its time.

The Bucs uniform can easily be compared in style and sleekness to those pro combat uniforms the college programs are wearing.

The silver/grey pants look good both with the home reds and road whites and the Bucs helmet has a pirate flag with a skeleton head on it.

How much cooler can that be?  The Bucs have had the best uniform in the league for years and the rest of the league is still trying to catch up.

2. Oakland Raiders

There is something that is just great about the simpleness of the old school black and silver.

The Raiders uniform really hasn't changed in the team's existence, even though the organization has moved cities on 3 occasions.

Having such a steady look is easy for the Raider faithful that fill Oakland Coliseum every week.

Plus, the black and silver makes the Raiders look tough, almost criminal in nature, much like their vaunted reputation.

Hopefully Al Davis, who likes to change things around, continues to keep these simple but nearly perfect uniforms in tact for years to come.

3. St. Louis Rams

Steven Jackson of the St. Louis Rams stiff arms a 49ers defender.

There is something about the horns on the Rams helmet that make it cool.

The freshness of the blue and the gold also helps.  The road whites with blue pants really look sharp and give the team a quick, clean look.

Still not as fresh as the Bucs new look, and certainly not as good as the classic Raiders style, but still a quality for a uniform for an organization that is still trying to play quality football.

4. Pittsburgh Steelers

Another classic look that will never get old.  Think of all of the great players in NFL history that have wore the black and gold.

Terry Bradshaw.  Lynn Swann.  Jerome Bettis.  The list goes on and on.

So will the Steelers look, which plenty of teams try to copy on all levels.  (see the Iowa Hawkeyes).

5. Philadelphia Eagles

Another version of the new look uniforms, the Eagles jerseys don't quite stack up the Rams, but are certainly in the mix as a top uniform.

The fonts on the numbers are unique in the league and the helmet in with the Eagles wings is unmatched and probably the coolest helmet in the league.
