NFL Picks, Week 2

Week 1 of the 2010 NFL football season is in the book and so far so good for this years ManSpeak NFL Picks.  I managed to pull out go 4-1 last week behind the strength of successfully predicting that the Lions will be much improved and cover, the Chiefs will expose the losses of the San Diego Chargers, and that the Jets would be distracted from all of their off-season shenanigans and lose at home and not be ready for the Ravens.

Week 2 presents some interesting match-ups and honestly, some games that could go either way.  We still don't know much about a few teams.

For example, are the San Francisco 49ers going to really be this big of a dud?  They cost us the one loss for last week which I'm fine with, but to go and get drubbed by the Seattle Seahawks, who I am convinced really aren't that good, is just embarrassing.

And how about them Cowboys?  Their offense was anemic and Tony Romo was running around that field last week being chased by everyone in a Redskin uniform not named Albert Haynesworth.

Either way, despite plenty of unanswerable questions, lets pick some games.

(1-0) Kansas City Chiefs (+2) vs (0-1) Cleveland Browns

Last week the Chiefs came up huge for me and just as I predicted the crazy, raucous crowd at Arrowhead Stadium helped send the Chiefs to Monday Night Football victory over the San Diego Chargers.  The place was electric, but some of that electricity had to do with Jamal Charles and the Kansas City defense.

I don't think that victory over the Chargers was a fluke.  I think with the strength of Charlie Weis and Romeo Crennel as the coordinators for this team, the Chiefs will always be well-prepared.

I am in the camp that thinks the Browns will be better this season, but not this week with Seneca Wallace running the show.  I say the Browns lose to the Chiefs at home.  Kansas City 26 Cleveland 20

(1-0) Pittsburgh Steelers (+6) vs (1-0) Tennessee Titans

The Steelers played tough last week at home and helped the ManSpeak get a victory last week over the Atlanta Falcons in the season opener.  Dennis Dixon was good enough and Rashard Mendenhall was a beast in the backfield with a game winning touchdown run.

That being said, this game is in Tennessee and Chris Johnson is determined to get to 2500 yards.  Look for him to put up his usual 150 yard game and look for the  Titan defense, who was awesome last week against Oakland, to stymie and confuse Pittsburgh's second year quarterback.

I'm taking the Titans to cover this game and for it to really not be too close.  Tennessee looks good early on.  Tennessee 31 Pittsburgh 17

(1-0) Houston Texans vs (1-0) Washington Redskins (+3)

Donovan McNabb and the Washington Redskins looked a little unfamiliar with each other in their first game together last week against Dallas.  That can be expected as McNabb gets acclimated to his new surroundings.

But I don't think the adjustment process will take long and with the way the Redskin defense played last week despite the Albert Haynesworth saga, I think the Redskins being 3 point dogs is absolutely ludicrous.

I respect the Texans and what they did last week to the Colts, but this week they will try that running game and Haynesworth will be standing their waiting.  I also see a letdown by the Texans, after such a huge week against their traditional nemesis.

I think Washington wins at home and if they lose, it will be closer than 3 points.  Washington 24 Houston 23

(1-0) Chicago Bears (+7.5) vs (0-1) Dallas Cowboys

Last week, Matt Forte looked exactly like Marshall Faulk coming out of the back field when he caught 7 balls for over 150 yards and two touchdowns.  The versatile back will thrive under Mike Martz and he will also make the enigmatic Jay Cutler better.

Dallas only scored 7 points in their season opener last week, and yet they are 7.5 point favorites this week.  I think Tony Romo and that offense will play better than last and hopefully they get the ball down field a bit to Dex Bryant.  If they don't, not only will Dallas not cover this spread, but they could be in trouble and lose their home opener, something that surely would cause owner Jerry Jones to show head coach Wade Phillips the door.

I'm predicting that just may happen.  Besides, this point spread is crazy.  Chicago 31 Dallas 27

Look for the Chiefs, Titans, Redskins, and Bears to get it done on Sunday and either win their games or at the least cover their spreads.  I'll pick the Monday night game for you tomorrow.

Have a great weekend of football.
