Woods and McIlroy Exchange Words

The much anticipated Ryder Cup starts on Friday on the beautiful Celtic Manor Resort in the City of Newport, Wales.

While the golf starts on Friday, the the trash talking began a few weeks ago.

Rory McIlroy, a 21 year old long-hitter out of Northern Ireland and first time member of the European squad, has already called out the most famous golfer of all.  In an interview with BBC, McIlroy suggested that he is confident to face Tiger Woods one-on-one at the 38th playing of the Ryder Cup.  And he is confident in any of his teammates defeating him too.

"Unless his game rapidly improves," McIlroy said, "I think anyone in the European team would fancy their chances against him."

On Monday, at a press conference leading up to this weekend's event, Woods was asked about McIlroy's comments some six weeks back, and responded simply and sternly

"Me too."

McIlroy has made a HUGE MISTAKE.  Waking a sleeping, lumbering giant will not help things out when the two sides put on their knickers and shoot 36 holes on Friday.

Woods has not been himself since returning from golf after an ugly public cheating scandal and divorce with Elin Nordegren.  But everyone knows that when you poke a giant, you are asking for trouble.  Especially when that giant is possibly the greatest golfer that ever lived.

McIlroy is talented and a fan favorite, but in this case, has made a brutal mistake.  McIlroy is now under extreme pressure to put his putter where his mouth is, especially in an event that has so much on the line for the European side, who on paper, look to be the heavy favorite on their home course in Wales.

As if the drama won't be good enough on the course, McIlroy has made the ultimate rookie mistake and my money says that Tiger and the American side will make him pay.
