St. Louis Rams Pass On Randy Moss

Randy Moss landed in Tennessee, but the
St. Louis Rams had an opportunity to grab him.
Most of the NFL pundits, including ESPN's esteemed reporters Chris Mortensen and John Clayton, thought that the St. Louis Rams would be the team that lands Randy Moss.

Wrong.

The Rams were in 13th position to submit a claim for the talented, yet enigmatic wide receiver, but decided against it.

In my opinion, it was the right choice.

When asked about the decision making process, St. Louis Rams general manager Billy Devaney explained,

Good for the Rams for sticking with their guns.  Head coach Steve Spagnuolo has built this team, which is now 4-4, around hard work, dedication, and team work.

The last time I checked, I don't ever remember seeing these adjectives in any story that involved Randy Moss, let alone the same sentence.

Passing on Moss was the smart thing to do for the Rams, despite their biggest need being a down field threat to open up the offense for rookie quarterback Sam Bradford and all-pro running back Steven Jackson.

Sure, Moss would've helped the offense because of his ability to "stretch the field," but the risk would be that he would hurt the growth of this team more, which is exactly why the Rams brass made the right decision on passing on the wide out.

Taking it slow rather than getting rich quick and gambling on Moss is the correct choice.

Besides, the Rams can make the playoffs without him.
