Roger Goodell Issues Fines Bigger Than Communist China

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is fining players the equivalent to
middle class citizens' yearly salaries for border-line "dirty" hits.
Another week in the NFL has passed and another set of invoices have been issued by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to players who performed "dangerous" and "life changing" hits.

Policing hits and limiting the amount of times players purposely go after another player's head or unnecessarily slam someone to the ground is fine, but Goodell is fining players more for single hits than most of his loyal fan base brings home in a single year!  That is ridiculous!

Troy Polamalu, safety for the Pittsburgh Steelers, has voiced his opinion on how Goodell has become the dictator of the NFL, policing everything solely on his own without representation from the players on the field that make the game so great.   Polamalu thinks Goodell has too much power.

Not only does Troy have great hair, but he is right.  Goodell is power hungry and the players that are paying the man have every right to speak out.  He is running the NFL like a dictator or emperor from communist China.

Players aren't happy. Nor should they be.

This week's culprits include Pittsburgh Steelers line backer James Harrison and Philadelphia Eagles line backer Ernie Sims.

Thankfully, both are speaking about how they feel about paying these hefty fines.

"The amount of money is becoming an issue," James Harrison said Thursday after being fined $20,000 for a late hit on Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints. "The fines that they issued to me, two of them weren't even called penalties. I don't even know what to say anymore."

Ernie Sims is equally frustrated and realizes that $50,000 is a lot of money!

"I really, really hate the fact that I got fined $50,000," Sims said regarding the amount of his fine for striking wide receiver Lavelle Hawkins near the neck with his forearms. "I don't care how much money you make, that's a ton of money, money I worked hard for my whole life. Just for anybody to take it away from me for something that I do on the field, I just think it's crazy. But this is the league that I play in and I've got to respect that, so I'm just going to go out there and keep playing football."

Where is this money going Dictator Goodell?  Is it going to charity?  Is it going back to the owners?

Goodell needs to get this under control.  Quickly.

Yes I agree that something should be done about players who head-hunt and purposely try to injure players with their head or through any other illegal tactic, but leveraging $50,000 fines without the consultation of player representatives is something that needs to be hammered out in the next collective bargaining agreement.

If Goodell's price for border-line dirty hits continues to be so high, we likely won't have any NFL football in 2011.
