Sidney Crosby is only 23 years old. He's already won a Stanley Cup Trophy and an Olympic Gold Medal, which means even though he is young, those legs have a lot of miles on them already.
In order to prepare for another grueling NHL season, Crosby admits that he has learned that fitness and endurance are keys for future success.
"I think that's so important for a hockey player now. And as much as you're trying to build and gain strength, you're also trying to make sure that you stay healthy and prevent injuries as best you can. That's really what goes into my mind when I'm preparing for a season. I think strength-wise, speed-wise, you are just always trying to gain that edge."
Just what the rest of the NHL needs, the best player in the league coming off a season where he scored 51 goals and tallied 109 points, is suddenly worried about his fitness.
Its great to see the Crosby is dedicated to getting better. A young player with the drive and will to succeed certainly is refreshing. If his training program has picked up, look for the number of pucks that hit the back of the net to increase too.
Seguin getting look at Center
Tyler Seguin, the number two overall draft pick in this past spring's NHL Entry Draft, will get a look at playing some center for the Boston, according to Bruins coach Claude Julien.
With top center-man Marc Savard out with an injury, a hole has opened in the Bruins rotation and Julien is looking at all opportunities.
"We've got a couple of different options here. think one of the things we want to see is that maybe Tyler Seguin needs to be looked at as a center as well. We can't put him out of the equation. He's a natural center-man and was drafted as that. He's one of the guys we can look at."
I love it when hockey coaches show confidence in their young phenoms. Giving the kid a chance to play center on one of the Bruins top lines can help only help the youngster develop rapidly. Plus, it fills a need for the Bruins, who rely on Savard to do so much.
Blackhawks will get rings Wednesday
The Chicago Blackhawks are scheduled to receive their 2010 Stanley Cup Championship rings at a private gathering on Wednesday.
The Blackhawks begin their Stanley Cup title defense on Thursday, October 7th on the road against the Colorado Avalanche.
