Eagles Beat 49ers, Singletary and Smith in Trouble

San Francisco 49ers Head Coach Mike Singletary instructs
quarterback Alex Smith during timeout earlier this season
Another opportunity, but yet the same result for the San Francisco 49ers.

Smith threw for 309 yards and 3 touchdowns, but turned the ball over 3 times with two interceptions and a costly fumble at the end of the 4th quarter that the Eagles returned 51 yards for a touchdown.

After the play, leaving the field to a chorus of boos from the Bay Area faithful, head coach Mike Singletary got into into it with Smith on the sideline.  It looked as if Singletary would pull Smith, but instead, put him out there yet again.  Smith responded well, leading the 49ers to touchdown scoring drives, but it was too little, too late as previous mistakes by quarterback were too much to overcome.

The crowd certainly voiced their displeasure with Smith after the fumble, but how long until the crowd starts voicing their displeasure with Singletary?

The 49ers were pre-season favorites to win the NFC West and some experts, like Mike Greenberg from the ESPN Radio show Mike and Mike, picked the 49ers to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl.

Who is going to be held accountable for this horrendous and inexcusable start?  A change must be made.  Either Smith or Singletary must go and it should happen before anybody goes to bed tonight.

49ers Head Coach Mike Singletary barking orders
to his 0-5 team.
In my opinion, it is Singletary that must be fired immediately.  I love the way he came into that locker-room and fired the team up two seasons ago.  He certainly is responsible for the revival of 49er football and in helping to turnaround what was a never-ending tailspin.

But, THAT WAS TWO SEASONS AGO!

The locker room doesn't believe in him anymore.  His constant in your-face, my way or the highway style of coaching has wore on this team and it is obvious that he is not getting 100% out of everybody.  This team is too talented, has too much invested, and can't afford to be 0-5 at this point.

Singletary must go.

Meanwhile, what a win for Andy Reid and the Philadelphia Eagles.  Kevin  Kolb was good enough to get the job done on the road.  Traveling across the country is never easy, and Kolb managed to lead the Eagles to victory, going 21 for 31 and throwing for 253 yards.  Most importantly, Kolb managed not to make any mistakes while throwing one touchdown pass to tight-end Brent Celek in the first quarter.

Philadelphia was also led by running back LeSean McCoy.  McCoy, questionable coming into the game with a rib injury, rushed 18 times for 92 yards and a score while also grabbing 5 catches from Kolb for an additional 46 yards.

San Francisco, with or without Singletary and or Smith, hosts their neighbors the Oakland Raiders (2-3) while Philadelphia hosts the Atlanta Falcons (4-1)
