The Man Speak Thinks the BCS is....BS!!!

There is one week remaining in the College Football regular season.  And with one week left, BCS supporters have to be feeling pretty good about themselves.  If all things go right, the corporate stiffs and national media will get their wish of a SEC Champion vs. Texas.  What a perfect match-up right?  Let's agree to disagree....

If there was ever a year for a playoff, it would be this year, as there are plenty of worthy teams.  Heck, there are 6 teams going into the last game of the regular season that are undefeated.
Why penalize all of these great teams by only selecting 2 of the 6 teams to play for the National Title?

There has to be an 8 team playoff, and there has to be an 8 team playoff now.

Don't give me all this garbage about tradition.  Don't talk to me about big schools versus small schools.  Don't lecture me about how the system works, because it doesn't.  Ever since 2004 when Auburn went undefeated (a beloved media darling of all teams from the SEC) but was denied a chance to play for the National Title, this system has been a farce.

Let's have an eight team playoff.  Let's have one now.

No, the regular season would not become meaningless.  Only 8 teams would make the playoff out of a total of 120, or just 6.67%.  Compare this to the NFL who has 37.5%, MLB who has 26.67%, or even college basketball who has 18.7%.  Anyway, who says the regular season has any meaning now anyway, I mean, 68 out of 120, or 56.67% make it to a bowl game every year.  Those games against Northwest Central Tennesee A&M Tech State are really important, right?

Assuming that Texas takes care of business against Nebraska and let's say Florida beats Alabama for seeding purposes only, take a look at these glorious match-ups that would result.

1 Florida vs 8 Ohio State
2 Texas vs 7 Oregon
3 TCU vs 6 Alabama
4 Cincinatti vs 5 Boise State

Wow!  What a playoff!  Some interesting match-ups.  And just think, the winners get to play each other the next week.  Then, when you are left with the final 2, you have an actual Championship Game against two teams that actually proved between the lines that they deserve the right to play for that National Championship.

Too bad money says such a concept will never be adopted.

Cheers!

Cruddy
