What if Nebraska Would've Won????

The Man Speak was excited, thrilled, and intense.  Who wasn't sitting on pins and needles last night watching ABC?

The Big 12 Championship has become a whacky event on a yearly basis, and this year was no exception.  Texas held on for a narrow one point victory of the the Huskers.  But what would've happened to college football had Nebraska pulled off the upset?

Sure, speculation is only speculation since it didn't happen, but here is what I think you would've seen if Nebraska would've won last night....

1. Boise State would've been omitted from the BCS Bowl games altogether.

If Nebraska would've won, they would've earned the Big 12's automatic berth the the BCS, making Texas an at-large team.  Giving Texas an automatic bid through an at-large surely would've given the corporate big-wigs an excuse to leave "small-school" Boise State out.  You would've seen....

BCS Bama vs Cinci
Orange Georgia Tech vs Iowa
Sugar Florida vs Texas
Rose Oregon vs Ohio State
Fiesta TCU vs Nebraska

The Orange Bowl guys would've taken Iowa over Boise State.  It would've happened and they would've cited how well Iowa can travel versus Boise, who's fans I guess would be too busy harvesting potatoes.

2. Cincinatti would've jumped TCU in the human polls.

Sure in the overall BCS standings the Bearcats moved up past TCU, but it was due to the computer jump, not the humans.  If Nebraska would've won, you would've seen Cincinatti miraculously jump the Horned Frogs because of their ever so convincing victory by one humongous point over Pitt.  The Bearcats suddenly would've been ranked higher in the AP, Coach's, and Harris polls, you know, just to make sure they made the BCS Championship rather than non-BCS-worth TCU.

Unfortunately, much to the chagrin of The Man Speak, nothing controversial, except for Colt McCoy scrambling to his right and throwing the ball out of bounds with one second remaining to set up the game winning field goal, occurred.

One can only hope, during one of these outstanding football seasons, that eventually something will happen to change the system so we can get our 8 team playoff we so desperately deserve!
