Trouble seems to be stirring in Big D, as the Dallas Cowboys are desperate for a win after opening the NFL season with two terrible losses, one on the road against division rival Washington and another at home against the Chicago Bears.
While searching for a victory, its a highly unlikely for the Cowboys to get a W this week as they travel in state for an old-school Texas Showdown with the hot and upstart (2-0) Houston Texans.
According to ESPN, only five teams in NFL history have overcome an 0-3 start to make the playoffs.
So, with the disappointing start, you would think that Jerry Jones would be talking, right? Well, he is, and surprisingly he is defending his head coach Wade Phillips.
When asked if Phillips job was in jeopardy, Jones gave the following:
"I can just give you a very affirmative 'no.' I do believe in Wade and the staff and the players. The thing about it is when you have that kind of commitment, one of the No. 1 things you have it for is those situations. Those people are supposed to really be there in hard times. Hard times. That's when you've got to make your best grade if you're deserving of that commitment and we're in hard times. That's why I'm in the saddle with Wade and in the saddle with the staff and the team."
Surprising to hear that Jones still has faith in the Cowboys, who have looked sluggish and unprepared in their first two contests of the season.
According to espn.com, Jones has never fired a head coach mid-season before, but if the Cowboys continue this slide, how can he stick with Phillips? How can he continue to cope with a team that is talented up and down the roster, but shows lack-luster effort and plays without a purpose?
Is it possible that Jerry Jones is becoming more patient in his age? Maybe he is showing compassion and sympathy for a team that he cares deeply about?
We'll see how much he cares about these players and coaching staff if the Cowboys lose to Houston this week.
