Week 3 of the NFL season is here and there certainly are some disappointing teams and individual players across the NFL
The Dallas Cowboys and Minnesota Vikings have stunk it up in their first 2 games to start the season. Both were favorites to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl and even after their disastrous starts, some pundits still think they have a chance.
All the fantasy football experts were high on San Diego RB Ryan Matthews (104 rushing yards) and Michael Crabtree (3 receptions). Their production certainly has been feeble and disappointing.
I, on the other hand, have not been disappointing, going 7-2-1 in the first two weeks, including 2-0 on Monday Night Football. If Matt Schaub wouldn't of thrown for 5,000 yards last week, I'd be 8-2.
Either way, lets pick some games...
(1-1) Cincinnati Bengals vs (0-2) Carolina Panthers (+3.5)
The Bengals played angry last week against division rival Baltimore at home. They have that swagger back from last year, where the focus was on defense and the running game with Cedric Benson.
That's trouble for the Panthers, who decided to start rookie Jimmy Clausen this week. I think Clausen will be a great NFL quarterback one day, but he has a lot of growing up to do.
Growing pains sometimes hurt and honestly I think the Panthers are terrible. WR Steve Smith looks old and the defense has been brutal. And I thought the Panthers were suppose to have this great running game? Ranked 16th in the league on the ground isn't great with a rookie QB. Is it time for John Fox to go?
I'm taking the Bengals to cover on the road. Cincinnati 26 Carolina 12
(0-2) Cleveland Browns (+11) vs (1-1) Baltimore Ravens
The Ravens have started with two very tough road games to start the season, including an impressive victory at the New York Jets and a grinding loss at the Bengals.
Despite having star RB Ray Rice and up-and-coming QB Joe Flacco, the Ravens have struggled to score, managing just 20 points in their first two games. Experts believed the offense would be a strength of this team.
Cleveland, on the other hand, has lost two very tight games to ( 2-0) Kansas City and (2-0) Tampa Bay. The Browns have kept both games close, and with an underrated defense, I think they can keep this game close too because I don't think the Ravens can score enough to cover the spread.
I'll take the 11 points and the Browns to cover in a tight one. Baltimore 19 Cleveland 13
(1-1) Indianapolis Colts vs (1-1) Denver Broncos (+6)
Peyton and the Colts absolutely waxed his brother Eli's New York Giants last week, but every week is a new week in the NFL.
The Broncos were equally impressive last week vs Seattle, but I'm not overly impressed with the Broncos either. Kyle Orton plays ugly football and looks like a goof and Knowshon Moreno is missing this game due to a hamstring injury, which is a tough break for the Broncos.
Peyton is the master and I certainly think that the Colts will move the ball, but don't forget that the Bronco defense features a forgotten man, CB Champ Bailey.
I think Bailey and the Broncos make enough plays to keep this game close. Denver is one of the toughest places to play in the entire NFL, which you have to handicap a little bit. I think the Colts win, but I'll take the Broncos and the points with my money. Indianapolis 31 Denver 26
(1-1) Oakland Raiders (+4.5) vs (1-1) Arizona Cardinals
Both of these teams stink and have major QB issues. Derek Anderson is not a NFL starting QB. Neither are either of the guys Oakland has, Bruce Gradkowski or Jason Campbell.
The Raiders are starting the right QB, but the improvement of RB Darren McFadden will be the difference in this game. Lets face it, the Arizona Cardinals either need Kurt Warner back or to play the St. Louis Rams every week to win. I'll take the points, but I don't think I'll need them. Oakland 23 Arizona 13
Should be an interesting week yet again in the NFL. We'll see how the picks go. If past performance is any indication of future results, then I feel pretty good. Check out my previous picks here.
