Alabama Falls to 8th in AP Poll

South Carolina RB Marcus Lattimore scored 3 times in South
Carolina's upset victory against Alabama
After losing to South Carolina 35-21 on Saturday on the road, much was made of where exactly Alabama should fall in the polls.

ESPN had one of their silly fake court room battles between Lou Holtz and Mark May.  Holtz, predictably suggested that Boise State and TCU should jump Alabama and May arrogantly protested that Alabama is better than either of these two teams.

However you feel, in my opinion, the AP POLL HAS IT RIGHT!

Alabama fell to number 8 in the country, and rightfully so.

There is no way that anyone should suggest that the Crimson Tide should be ranked higher than Boise State or TCU, who continue to take care of business in impressive fashion.

I agree that the schedule Alabama has had to endure has been brutal, taking on Arkansas on the road, Florida at  home, and then finally succumbing to South Carolina on the road.

But you can not penalize Boise State and TCU for their play on the field.  These two schools continue to do everything that is asked of them, and that is to schedule whoever they can and just win on the field.

Do I think that Boise and TCU or better than Alabama?  Actually, yes, I do.  Alabama isn't even the best team in their own conference, with the likes of Auburn and LSU still undefeated.  Alabama's defense is one year away from being great again and McElroy just isn't a high profile quarterback.

That being said, Boise State and TCU will receive a dose of their own medicine by the end of the season.  Either Oklahoma or Nebraska will jump these two schools in the polls and they play in a Big 12 conference that is likely the worst of the so called, self-proclaimed "Power Conferences".

The answer to this non-sense remains the same.  Have a playoff.  Shorten the regular season to 10 or 11 games and have the top 8 schools square-off in a playoff.  Don't sheepishly through these small schools like Boise and TCU into a bowl game against each other at the end of a season where both go undefeated against a non-conference schedule against a few teams that have the gonads to actually schedule them.

TCU and Boise will end up screwed by the polls and the arrogance of the college football system at some point by the end of the year.

But for their sake, it was good to see Bama fall to 8th.  Hopefully we end up with 4 undefeated teams and a mess at the end of the season.  Its the only way we'll see the playoff we all want and need.

And Mark May, please stop being a pompous blow-hard for these power schools.  Try encouraging your boys like USC, Florida State, and Alabama to schedule Utah, Boise, or TCU.  That will give us a fair argument for once.
