Donovan McNabb taking the field earlier this season with his new team, the Washington Redskins |
This year, October also signals the return of Donovan McNabb back to Philadelphia, the city where he spent 11 seasons as the starting quarterback for the Eagles.
It will be interesting to see the reception McNabb gets when he takes the field. McNabb thinks he will get cheers. I think he'll get booed on every possession. Either way, I know it will be fun to watch.
At this point my picks have been rather good this year at 11-3-1. I'm going to keep this picks short and sweet, although this week's match-ups and spreads seem to be a lot tougher than the first 3.
Lets pick some games anyway...
(3-0) Chicago Bears (+3.5) vs (1-2) New York Giants
Evidently, October is so great this year that Christmas came early!
Last time I checked, the Bears were undefeated and the Giants played against the Titans last week and looked as if Boise State could beat them.
Eli Manning has been brutal this season and Brian Urlacher and company will make it rough on him again.
Plus, I think Matt Forte goes crazy on a very slow Giants defense. I'll take my points, although I don't think I need them. Chicago 27 New York Giants 17
Steven Jackson will likely miss Sunday's game against Seattle with a groin injury |
Coming off of a huge win last week against the Washington Redskins last week, the league is full of buzz about how good Sam Bradford is going to be.
I hate when people get full of buzz. I don't even know what that means. Either way, I feel a huge disappointment looming. Plus Steven Jackson is not going to play. That is trouble for St. Louis, even if they did win last week.
I'll give the points and take the Seahawks in what should be one of the hardest games to watch all year. Seattle 23 St. Louis 17
(0-3) San Francisco (+7) vs (2-1) Atlanta
This is another let down pick. Atlanta, fresh off their road victory against the defending champs, will come out flat in this one. Plus, this is an absolute must-win game for San Francisco.
The 49ers will be playing with desperation. I realize that they got waxed last week by Kansas City, but 7 points is a lot of points go to give away. I'm taking the points and the 49ers, but I have a weird feeling that I won't need them. San Francisco 23 Atlanta 21
(1-2) Washington Redskins (+6) vs (2-1) Philadelphia Eagles
Michael Vick is the MVP of the league at this point.
For as well as Vick has played, I still don't think the Eagles are really that great overall. The offense will score points, but the Detroit Lions showed two weeks ago that the defense can give up some big points, even to a mediocre Lions offense.
McNabb slipped up last week in St. Louis and I believe that he was already focused on Philly. Again, 6 points is a lot, especially in a divisional match-up where emotions will be so high. I think Philly wins, but it will be close, so I'm taking the Redskins and the 6 points. Look for this to be the game of the week, on top of the Vick and McNabb story lines. Philadelphia 26 Washington 23
My 5th pick of the week will either come in a Monday Night Football preview article, or you can check it on my twitter account @themanspeak.
Should be another interesting week of NFL football. Enjoy your Sunday and Happy October.
